Mrs. Wiedeman and Ms. Taylor's first blog

The first week of school has the students excited and energized about the year ahead. Our students have been busy breaking in the new playground, checking out the bright new first grade rooms, and connecting with school friends again. Summer activities were shared and so was a little "slice of summer."

It has been a joy to watch the students embrace the material we have given them on our new theme, Myself, Others and a Caring Community. We have been identifying what we like about ourselves, what we appreciate in others, and how we see ourselves contributing to our community. With Labor Day approaching we have also explored all the community helpers in our lives. A firefighter and a construction worker will be visiting our classrooms this week. Reviewing classmate's names and putting them in alphabetical order has been fun. These students are very good with ABC order. Feel free to check them at home from the class list we sent home.

Mrs. Wiedeman and Ms. Fate conducted our first experiment with the students. Hands On science was a BLAST! We observed a reaction of gas from alka seltzer tablets in a small canister. It caused the canister to be propelled in the air because of the pressure inside. We emphasized the importance of adult supervision while trying this experiment at home.

A kind reminder from P.E. class: Please send your child to school with tennis shoes on for P.E. For safety reasons they have to have tennis shoes or non-marking shoes. It is easier for all if they wear the shoes all day instead of changing in to their P.E. shoes. We have P.E. on Tuesdays and Fridays
