The first few weeks of school have flown by like a whirlwind. Students and teachers alike have been having a great time getting to know one another, reviewing skills, building our classroom community, and exploring our new theme, Myself, Others, and A Caring Community.

In Math, we have been having a great time reviewing basic skills like rote counting, one to one correspondence, tallying, skip counting, odd & even numbers, days of the month, and months of the year. Students have created awesome calendars that will be included in their memory books, used pocket chart activities to review skills, danced and learned some wonderful songs about the math. We’ve covered quite a bit in such a short amount of time and all that we have observed will help us shape our instruction as the year progresses.

In the computer lab, students have been playing web based games that reinforce short vowel sounds, rhyming, alphabetical order, and basic math skills. Students are working hard to master logging on and off the lab computer as well. It is such a sight to see them work together to problem solve when they encounter technological difficulties. While we don’t teach keyboarding, some activities are helping them learn how the keyboard is set up, letter recognition, and spelling.
