In Math this week we had alot of activity. We had groups working with the abacus, some reviewing subtraction with unifix cubes ( cubes in a container and roll the dice subtract and write the problem...go until you come to zero) a group on greater than less than problems, and some on the wipe off boards with reviewing. Each class in Math this week began with general instruction. We introduced money and value of coins. We talked about all the information on each coin. We lined the coins up in order from greatest in value to the least. We learned some great money rhymes. Of course, we talked about what president is on each coin.

During indoor recess Tony practices drawing the Statue of Liberty.
In Social Studies we learned about the Pledge of Allegiance...how it began and what the words mean.

For our Valentine's Day exchange we ask that the first graders bring one Valentine for every first grader. That would be 42 kids total. The Valentine's don't have to have the name of the student on them but make sure your child signs their Valentine. Our party is on Monday, February 14th from 2:00 - 3:00 pm
Our class will be decorating boxes in the room together. Ms. Fate's room is handling that differently.
No spelling packet or test this coming week. So, no test on Friday, January 28th!!
Books in a bag are due this Friday again. We had several children who were finishing their chapter book from their books in a bag and needed more time this week.
Famous American report due this Friday. If you need help please call me and we can work out a time and help your child finish this and copy it in the report cover.
Have a great weekend.
Mrs. Wiedeman and Miss Taylor
