Valentine's Day is always so much fun! During Integrated Language we had fun language games with valentines as the theme. All the students had beautiful boxes for their classmates to put their special valentine cards in. The parent volunteers worked hard to provide treats, a fun game with conversation hearts, and a story. Thank you to all the parents who spread love through our room. We couldn't do these things without you!

We met with our buddies on Monday to exchange our "Some bunny loves you cards." We love spending time with our buddies. These seventh graders make the first graders feel so important. Their time together is so wonderful!
Joel Nichols from Channel 9 news came to talk to our ECC and Primary students here at St. Paul's. This man is funny! Ask your child about the story he told about when he was going to kindergraten and he asked his much older brothers some questions. We were even featured on the news the next morning! Miss Stephenson said her kindergarten students created a news room during their center time. Many of your kids will remember how much fun that center time was. They even made maps and a green board to do the weather.
The students wrote about their last USA symbol/monument in their wonderful journal that will come home at the end of the year. They wrote about the White House. They will now begin writing about Australia in their journals.
Please call Mrs. Wiedeman or email if you can outline Australian animals on big brown paper for the kids to stuff with newspaper at home.
Australia begins this coming week. All the USA theme items are down from the walls in the room and we are changing themes for the students to arrive Tuesday morning. In computer lab the students were introduced to Australian animals.
In Math we had centers with place value, double digit subtraction, and menu money. Miss Taylor made beach balls with a different number in each color on the ball. The students in that group threw up the ball and caught it. Whatever number their two hands landed on they subtracted. Many numbers were double digit numbers. Another group of students were busy adding menu items from a menu with dollars and cents.

Hooray for the USA Performance, our culminating activity which wraps up our study of the USA was a complete success! These students knew their lines and were so brave up on stage. We are so proud of what they learned and recited. I have only a few pictures and am going to post more. Here's a glimpse.

Wee...the weather was nice enought to take our Hands On science class outside. We grouped in to eight planets and the sun. Many of these students already knew the Sun was a star. Many of them knew that earth was the third planet from the sun. We learned that it takes the Earth one year to complete its revolution around the sun, and one day for the earth to rotate one time on its axis.
We had a couple of rehearsals that cut in to some of our time in the mornings for Integrated Language.
Some kids will take the test for Chapter 12 in spelling when they return on Tuesday. The spelling packets are really improving!!!! The super sentences are impressive and fun to read.
