G'Day Mates!!

Thomas is sharing pictures from his mom and dad's travels to Australia
1st grade is thriving in the land down under!!  Lots of fun learning and sharing of Australian facts!

We made koalas and wrote facts from the new information we've learned.

In literacy learning we're working on creative writing with super sentences.

Ms. Lorfing helped students research their Australian animals.

We worked in our jumbo journals writing about the history of Aborigines.  We also began rehearsing our Australian dance which we will get to share with parents and during the International Festival.  It is a fun way to share the history of this amazing country!
We worked on fractions this week.  Sawyer is sharing the fraction kit we made which shows whole, 1/2, 1/3 and 1/4.

We learned about the Australian flag and then made our own!

Nice work boys!

Part of spirit week for the food pantry was "sports day".  These two were showing their love for the KC Chiefs!!

In literacy learning we took Australian vocabulary words and put them in ABC order.  Working together in small groups gives everyone a chance to work on cooperation and team work!

Mr B. helped us out this week!  Thank you!

Joshua and his parents showed their appreciation for his caring classmates during his foot recovery.

Mrs. S. sharing a Dr. Seuss book.
We took every chance we could this week to read books from the wonderful Dr. Seuss and celebrated his birthday on Friday by having a read-in with our blankies and books from home.  In literacy centers while reading Dr. Seuss books we did an adjective and verb search.

Mrs. M. reading Dr.Seuss.
In literacy centers we worked on work beginnings and ending to create words.

During literacy learning this week we focused on words with the long i and the bossy e at the end.

Long "e" combinations  ee and ea

Guided reading this week with Mallory. Big Al was the name of this fascinating book!

We reviewed coins this week and focused on the correct way to write the values of each coin.

We showed different ways to add up amounts at the candy shop.

Ms. Lorfing playing the didgeridoo.

Western Day!

We love recess!!!!
It was 70 degrees!

We had some very talented moms help out with the painting of our Australian animals!  Thank you so much for spending the morning with us.  We couldn't have done it without you!  We look forward to seeing what you do at home to bring these amazing Australian animals to life!  Let us know if you have any questions.
