And they lived happily ever after!

As April comes to an end, so does our fairy tale theme!  We've had so much fun learning about folk tales and fairy tales.  We've learned the elements of them such as the same beginnings, endings, evil vs. good, and things told in 3s.  We are now ready to begin the Merry Month of May Unit!  During this unit we will study poetry and have many opportunities to learn and write examples of different types of poetry.  This unit will take us to the end of the year.  Can you believe it?  We are almost there!

 We practiced our spelling words with clay this week.  They LOVED it!! 

  In Literacy Learning the class had the opportunity to explore the science table.  They used their 5 senses to explore and then recorded their results on paper.  We really enjoy seeing what these first graders bring in from home!

 For Earth Day our class created a banner showing what taking care of our earth looks like.  They worked together and planned out how to create their masterpieces.  We are so proud of their teamwork.  Please take time to look in our main school hallway at their artwork!

In math this week we reviewed place value, addition with doubles, patterns, evens, odds and addition/subtraction facts review.

 

 We talked about the difference between a folk tale and a fairy tale by creating a venn diagram.  Folk tales teach us lessons or morals and are passed down from generations ago.  Fairy tales have magical elements and usually have happy endings.

Anna's mom shared a DVD with the class this week titled, "A Day in the Life of Margot".  The class enjoyed learning about her day at The Children's TLC.

World Culture Festival in 8th grade occurred this week.  All the 8th graders toured our classroom and shared which country they came from and gave us a cheery "Hello" in their country's language.

Hands on Science was super fun and super messy!  We learned that when you mix 2 chemicals together you get a chemical reaction!  That reaction was SLIME for us!  We added liquid Borax detergent and liquid glue together.  Then, stir, stir, stir... End result- a solid was made.
