Tis the season...

PROJECTS, PROJECTS and MORE PROJECTS!
"Tis the season...
to sing, be merry and do LOTS of PROJECTS!"

Yes, we are still doing reading, writing, social studies, science and math but, we are having so much fun with holiday projects, we just can't stop!  It's funny how the teachers can blend in all those subjects into the projects and the class doesn't even know!!  FUN TIMES are happening in first grade.  Please stop by anytime to see.  We are sure to not dissapoint you!

CUTE little angels made by our angels!  Hopefully your child's angel made it home to add to your holiday decorations.

In math this week we focused on place value.  We learned that tens are tall and ones are small.  Looking at Sopie, Alex, William, Ginger and Medill, can you guess what number they created?  Ask your child to check your answer.

Glitter, ribbon, glue, scissors and more glitter... Looks like fun huh?

This week we used our word wall and played a flashlight search game.  We were specifically looking for Christmas words.  On the count of 3 we used our alphabet skills and quickly located the word by shining our flashlight on it.

In science we learned about surface tension and cohesion using a penny, a dropper and water.  The experiment was to see how many drops would go on the penny before it spilled.  Some found it could hold up to 60+ drops!

Important reminders:
With this year's flu season reporting to be a bad one we are emphasizing the importance of keeping hands clean and coughing into sleeves.  Please help remind your child to practice these important precautions at home as well.  We want everyone here and healthy for the holidays!

We are still collecting items for the pantry for our "zip into the new year" drive.  First grade is asked to contribute combs, brushes, shampoo and conditioner.  Thanks so much for those who have already contributed!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Kathleen and Carey
