HOORAY FOR THE U.S.A!!!

Language Arts Block
Guided with Mrs. Wyllie this week the kids have been making mind maps and turning them into paragraphs over the story they read, "Landmarks." With Miss Fate this week the kids are continuing their research reports and some kids are already finished!  The kids love researching! We will finish all of  them up and share these in Social Studies next week with our paper dolls as they come in.  The research reports will come home in the memory books at the end of the year.

Independently we have been reviewing long vowels &  i_e & a_e patterns this week in phonics.  We have been writing in our Hooray for the USA journals.  We have learned about many landmarks and symbols that will go in these journals during our unit and end up in the memory books.

Some of our centers this week included: listening to The Magic School Bus Statue of Liberty, putting together huge floor USA & President puzzles, Pancake Flip with our spelling words, writing our spelling words in a snail spiral, working with the silent e slides, using the iPads with the Rocket Math app (money), Starfall.com on the computer, framing a word with the a_e pattern and writing it in a sentence, using President cards to gather info. on them, writing the states down, started our math number scrolls,  we worked in our phonics books, and we practiced framing a word with VCV pattern.

Math
We have been continuing to learn about the coins & dollars.  We are reviewing the penny, nickel, dime, quarter, half dollars & dollars.  We have watched a money video that showed us how to count money & make change. The kids enjoyed playing the money game I have...Who has??  We reviewed and took a math assessment over everything we have learned in the 2nd Quarter in math.  We will share these with you at conferences.
