A poem in honor of our Merry Month of May:
1st grade
1st grade is the best,
simply better than the rest!
We work and we play,
we wish in 1st grade we could stay!
Language Arts
We love poetry! Many of our centers and guided groups this week focused on writing different types of poetry and reading poems as well. We also practiced spelling words, creative writing, grammar, phonics, and wrote another journal entry.

Math
In math this week, we reviewed a lot of skills and introduced some more difficult concepts as well. Students practiced place value up to numbers like 130,248. Students practiced adding and subtracting several digit numbers and carrying/borrowing. We reviewed our basic addition facts up to 20 to increase our quick recall of these facts and played "around the world", a class favorite! We reviewed tallying and graphing using a fun baseball themed activity. We think the 2nd grade teachers will be impressed with how much they can do!
Social Studies
We learned all about the different elements of poetry including rhythm, rhyme, repetition, metaphors, alliteration, and more! We continued to write different types of poetry using these different elements.
TNT
We finished up our special Mother's Day gifts! We hope you love them! Happy Mother's Day to all of you amazing moms!!
Special Event: 4th Grade ROAD RALLY
We had the opportunity to enjoy the ROAD (Reach Out And Dance) program performed by the St. Paul's 4th graders on Friday morning. It was lots of fun to see the different movements and dances they have been working on! It was a real treat for the 1st graders with 4th grade siblings!!
