In language arts we worked on words with "r" blends, nouns, verbs, adjectives, building sentences, contractions,
spelling practice, Thanksgiving packets and cornucopias just to name a
few.
In Mrs. Waller's small group they worked on breaking 2 words down into a contraction. They pretended to be surgeons to perform the task of cutting the words apart and then bandaging them up with band-aides once the new word was assembled.

Lila is working on her cornucopia.
Page is practicing her spelling words with a turkey.
Evan is reviewing his subtraction skills with subtraction bowling.
David made a squirrel for his Thanksgiving table.
Asa is working on his Thanksgiving packet.
Maddie read a phrase using adjectives and nouns and then illustrated it.
Five groups of five! 5 X 5=25!
We used the smart board and Greg Tang's book, Math For All Seasons, to find groups of a number and then circled each group to show how a total can be broken down to show how numbers are multiplied. This helps the students count by seeing groups instead of counting 1 by 1 which, as a result, increases their number sense!

Field trip to the Folly!
"Stella the Snow Queen" was a great hit with our first graders and Mr. Myler took time out of his busy schedule to join us!
Hands on science this week involved milk, food coloring, Q-tips and Dawn soap. We made a chemical reaction to discover what happens when soap and fat (from the milk) interact. The outcome was quite spectacular! Then, we changed a variable to see what would happen if we took away the milk (fat) and exchanged it for water. We definitely noticed a difference.
