We had a wonderful time at the Lit Festival at Rockhurst University! We heard from Christian Robinson, a wonderful illustrator, and Brian Floca, an author and illustrator- and a Caldecott Gold Medal winner! Thanks to Mr. N for organizing it for us!!

Math: This week, we started learning all about shapes! On Monday, we introduced what 2d and 3d shapes were and went on a shape hunt. Then on Tuesday and Thursday, we made Fairy Tale Castles using our 2d shapes.
Social Studies: We continued our Fairy Tale/Folk Tale unit with lots and lots of Fairy Tales! We reviewed the elements of a Fairy Tale, and worked on picking them out from the stories. The students also learned what Fairy Tale they will be working on for the next several weeks! They will create book banners with their characters and the setting, compare several different versions of the fairy tale, and create a puppet show in small groups using readers' theater scripts. It is an exciting and busy time here in first grade!
TNT: With the other class, we came up with a name for our lemonade stand! It is offically going to be called: A Penny Or A Dime- Make Haiti Shine! Then we made our own fliers to hang up around our neighborhoods. I will make copies of them and send them home closer to the lemonade stand.

Next Friday, April 17th, we will be going to the Kansas City Zoo! Remember to send your children with a sack lunch, drink, and weather appropriate clothing with comfortable walking shoes.
