Pet Blessing

Columbus Day started our week with fun learning fact activities during Integrated Language and Social Studies. The three ships in the fleet were on the ship longer than these first graders have been in first grade here at St. Paul's.

Tuesday we began to meet our guest bears. We had an assortment of bears, colors and names for their beloved friends. Introduced to the class were "Brownie" "Kristina" "Darth Mal" "Brodie"and more. So much love in the room right now!

In hands on Science we introduced Polar Bears to the classes. We talked about how the polar bears have black skin and white fur. We discussed why polar bears have black skin. Outside we had the students put ice cubes on black paper and on white paper and predict which would melt faster and why. We came inside and recorded our results.

We've had a lot of fun with contractions this week. The apostrophe is different from the comma and a hard thing to get used to, for a first grader. Practice some contractions with your child. They can do a memory game with contractions. Have them make index cards with contractions on them and some with the two words on them. Have them lay them out and match them. All the students worked with "pvc pipe phones" in reading. They loved it.

Pets for Life came to our Wednesday TNT time and shared their experiences with the organization. Each presenter talked about something to remember when being around dogs, especially ones you don't know. The students collected cards of all the animals. These first graders were so good around these dogs and always asked the handler if they could pet their dog.

Charlotte's birthday...seven years old

Recess is still the favorite part of the day! This weather has been a blessing.

Speaking of blessings...the pet blessing was today and it was a wonderful turn out of some of our favorite friends in the world.

Dates to Remember:
October 21 First Grade Program, 9:00 a.m. in the MPR
October 22 Doubles Test
October 28-29 Parent-Teacher Conferences
October 27 Halloween Ball
Please read note from Mrs. Abio about parents coming to the Halloween Ball.
Reminder from Mrs. Abio – The ECC and primary Halloween Ball will be here before you know it and Mrs. Abio wants to remind everyone that this is event is for students only. While we understand the desire to see this fun and memorable event, we are not able to accommodate 200 parents and still provide a quality experience for the students. Independent school experiences are an essential part of your child’s development. We thank you for your understanding and for your ongoing support.
