Panda Bears are the most popular bear among this group of first graders. They already knew most of the facts about pandas. Pictures of baby pandas won their hearts over. If you want to win over their heart, pull up pictures of Tai Shon from the National Zoo in Washington. These students are now pretending to be Panda bears on the playground, some even named Tai Shon....creative, inventive play!

We had to give up on our caterpillar in the chrysalis. Unfortunately nothing came out:( We changed our graph from predicting the butterfly that would emerge to large and small teddy bears. Flexibility!!!! We have continued our use of the number line. We are doing different levels of addition with number line use, use of dice, use of unifex cubes and 100's boards.
Our reading time is so packed with fluent reading. Skills like recognizing initial clusters like sm, sn, and sc need constant review. We have learned the sounds of words with consonant plus "l" at the beginning of them like:
play, black, planet, plum, just to name a few. I would encourage everyone to ask your child about beginning, middle, end of stories you have read to them or that they have read. Try to get concise answers reflecting beginning, middle and end of the stories they read to you at home.
