Famous Americans report turned in!!

Charlotte reading A Snowy Day

We are tired of snow!!!

The Famous American reports were turned in on Monday. They look good! This coming week we will begin asking each child to share their famous American information with the class.

During Integrated Language this week we listed all the "controlled r" words we knew. It was a pretty impressive list. We have reviewed contractions, and what to do when adding "ing" to words ending with silent "e." These first grade students have poured over the states books in our browsing boxes and the books on our National Monuments.

We learned about the Washington Monument. It is 555 feet high and it took 37 years to build because of a delay for many years. It is quite a sight. Around the base of the Washington Monument are flags from every state.

The Lines came home to practice with your child for the Hooray for the USA performance on February 17th. We will also practice at school, but need your help. Please have them say their lines over and over at home. Beginning now!

We tried playing Math Bingo with coins. Recognizing amounts using quarters, dimes, nickels, pennies takes practice. The caller calls out an amount and the players have to add their coins in the boxes and find the correct amount.

We are practicing our songs and have learned two new ones. They all love the Patriotic songs we are singing. You will too!

There is a Parent Resource page on this blog for all parents. Look under the archives.
Please send a decorated shoe box for Valentine's Day exchange.
Remember to send Valentines for both first grades.
Hooray for the USA is February 17th at 9:15 in the MPR

Spelling for the week:
form, more, store, arm, art, park, first, turn, inch, chin
Challenge Words:
February valentine groundhog history

Mrs. Wiedeman's disciples helped out in chapel Thursday. They were wonderful.
