Ninjas, Vampires, and Reading, Writing and doing Science

BOOK FAIR

Let Your Imagination Soar: Read!  Mark your calendar and stop by the book fair Sunday November 6th from 11:00-3:00 in the gymnasium.  The Reading Reptile is providing us with a great selection of children’s and young adult books just in time for the holidays or to restock your home library.  Looking for a new gift idea?  Purchase a prepaid $10, $15 or $20 birthday book card and Mr. N will select a book to be donated to the library in honor of your child’s birthday during his/her birthday month, or purchase a teacher selected “wish book” that will be added to the library in your name.  Students will visit the book fair on Monday, November 7 and Tuesday, November 8th.

Dear parents, we have a wonderful opportunity to help Mr. N. our librarian  raise an additional $5,000 for the library over the next 5 days in conjunction with our upcoming book fair.  He has challenged the entire school to read 50,000 pages before the end of the book fair on Tuesday.  If they can rise to the challenge the library will receive an additional $5,000 above and beyond what they make at the book fair.   “LET YOUR IMAGINATION SOAR… READ, READ, READ!”

Books in a bag is starting MONDAY!  Please look in your child's backpack for the reading bag which will have a book, calendar, strategy card and a note explaining the program.  Please return the contents, except the note, on Tuesday.

Field trip reminder:  Wednesday, November 9th.  We will be eating a "brunch" type of lunch at 10:30.  Please send something such as a bagel/cream cheese, fruit, yogurt or other filling foods.  Once we return, they will also have a snack time so please send an additonal snack for later in the afternoon.  Thank you!!

Bear scripts came home for the weekend.  Have your child take time to rehearse his/her lines and PLEASE make sure to return the script on MONDAY!!  Thank you!

HALLOWEEN DAY!!!

The week began with lots of fun as we participated in the Halloween Ball!  We saw lots of cute, scary, funny, sweet children parading around and singing Halloween songs.

We enjoyed listening to each others spooky Halloween stories and read Halloween books with creepy green witch fingers and our PCV pipe "telephones".

Our room is full of bears now...we have the brown bears, stuffed bears and polar bears.  Take a look at our brown bears.  Ask your child about the brown bear and where it can be found.

In Math we made equations using 2 colors in our counting bears.  We weighed blue bears and scissors and made our equations.  We are making Fact Families in MAth too.  We begin with the addition equations in Fact Families and make the 4 equations total for the "Family."

Fact Family Numbers
In a center during Integrated Language with a parent this week we sorted adjectives, and nouns.  We also came up with all kinds of facts on the bears we have studied and played Bingo with those facts.  Spelling our words is a piece of cake--one center had us using magnetic letters to spell our weekly list of words.  Mrs. W read with us and we identified long a words---ones with the bossy "e "at the end!!!

We end this "Candy Filled" week with a look at how we tried to calm these students down with Chaplain Nolan, the day after Halloween.  She came in and led a relaxation excercise with the students.

Good bye.  Have a great Weekend...Amelia Bedilia and Pinkalicious.

Guess who???
