Thanksgiving FUN!

The children were surprised by an Elf on the Shelf on Monday!  We read the story on Friday hoping he would show up.  They named him Seven.  The Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition that starts on Thanksgiving.  Sent directly from the North Pole, The Elf on the Shelf has captured the hearts of children everywhere.  At the start of each Christmas season, the elf appears to serve as Santa's eyes and ears, and every night it travels back to the North Pole to report in if the children have been naughty or nice.  We found ours on the abacus on Monday and the children were waving and talking to it.  They must not touch it or their Christmas wishes will not come true.  Today, Seven is hanging out in the daily schedule pockets with Monday & Tuesday in his hands & he changed the schedule to Friday.  His location differs each day.  More to come on this exciting friend in our classroom. *We definitely recommend this for you to try at your house. www.elfontheshelf.com

The past few days have been full of Thanksgiving fun.  The children have made turkeys out of toilet paper rolls. They have written acrostic poems to a person in their lives that they are thankful for; these came home on Monday. Together we have reviewed and learned more about the history of Thanksgiving.  Thanksgiving JINGO was played and Pilgrim puppet masks were decorated.  The kids also played a fun pilgrim dice game with a partner.

In Math this week we continued to review the concept of subtraction. With a handful of students gone we didn't want to begin a new concept.

The ingathering chapel was beautiful.  The kids loved carrying all the fresh produce and vegetables over to the alter.  It was fun having chapel in the church with the lower division grades 1st through 5th.  We loved what Father Stan said this morning, about we are a people of thanksgiving.  We have so much gratitude for our friends & family.

On Tuesday the children got to tour the food pantry and the results of all their hard work.  Thanks to Chaplain Nolan for giving us the special tour. We are so proud of them!!!  We wanted to them to see through their own eyes how much they contributed.  There will be a Service Club day Tuesday, December 6th right after school for any parents that want to volunteer with their children to help in the food pantry.  It will last 90minutes and the you will help sort food.  This would be an excellent and meaningful thing to do with your child.  It would show them the true meaning of giving back and helping along the way.
The banner gets to stay on our door:)

Thanks to Mrs. Kuhls for discussing the importance of washing hands with our class.  She did demonstrations from www.glitterbug.com. The children put on a special Glitter Bug lotion then held their hands under the black light to make sure they cleaned off all the germs.  It was so much fun!  It really showed us how important it is to scrub our hands.
