Miss Fate has guided the children while working in their grammar books and also helped the students create an adorable Valentine's Day gift for YOU! We hope you like them.
Independently, the students have created V-day cards for their buddies, listened to stories in the listening center, worked on their number scrolls, practiced spelling words and created other V-day crafts.

This week in math Miss Fate introduced fractions using some great visuals----pizza slices and apples! While Miss Fate worked on fractions, Mrs. Waller introduced time. This week we focused on the hour (o'clock) and half past the hour. We will move forward as the weeks progress. We like to introduce time and fractions together because of the way we naturally divide up the clock-they do really well with this. Thursday we made our own gigantic clock out in the commons.....your children worked in pairs to display the given time. The hour hand was a yard stick and the minute hand a broom. Take a look at the pictures below:

In TNT on Wednesday, we practiced our program for the first time with the other class. Next week, we will move over to the MPR so we can practice on stage!
In Hands-On Science, to go along with last week's excitement, we gave the students 1 straw, 1 3x5 index card cut into 3 strips, and five pieces of tape. We predicted what we could make with these materials and boy did we get some good ideas......we ended up making a hoop glider. We discussed Sir Isaac Newton's law of motion/friction and watched a short video about a young boy who loves to make all kinds of gliders. We discussed what made our hoop glider glide and how we might be able to improve or change it! We have many skilled craftsmen on our hands. What a blast!

| Testing them out.....we had a blast! |
In computer lab the students explored some new apps that have been placed on the iPads for us. They listened to stories with the app, Read Me Stories, and they got to review their math skills with, ClockMaster. We will review ClockMaster again in class next week. They had to fill out a follow up reading sheet to go along with the story they read.

*Please continue to bring in shoeboxes for your child for Valentine's Day. It can be plain, decorated or wrapped; it is your choice. It must have a slot on the top, the box should be able to open, the bigger size shoebox the better (it needs to hold 47 valentines). It also needs your child's first & last name on the top of it. Bring them in now ;)
February 14th-*On Valentine's Day you can bring in valentines for both classes (total of 43 kids & 4 teachers) please do not write people's names on them just have your child sign their names (this will make it easier to pass them out to both classes)
