Naturally, it is a bittersweet time of year for all of us. We are excited for your children to move to second grade because they are ready and they have grown so much. On the other hand, we are so sad to see them go. We will miss them so much.

The perfect shirt....to finish off first grade!
We have stayed busy with many exciting events this week. Take a look at the pictures below from Field Day. The kids had a blast.
We also had fun signing yearbooks!
The students have been working in their grammar and phonics books and they have come home. We also introduced them to VERSA TILES and they loved them. VERSA TILES combine the captivating challenge of a puzzle with the purposeful practice of
a workbook. This unique supplemental series offers a wealth of activities in
which children can practice skills independently and at their own pace. But more
than that, VERSA TILES gives the students immediate feedback when they check their
answers so they can correct mistakes on their own! It's the total solution for
making skills practice fun and effective! As Mrs. Waller guided the children they reviewed their doubles, patterns and greater than/less than. They will use these in second grade to review a variety of skills in Language Arts as well. They loved them.

When finished, you check the pattern to see if you got all the answers correct!

WE GOT IT!
We made thank you notes for Ms. Linn to thank her for playing for us on Thursdays in chapel. We have put them in the mail. She will love reading them. They have also worked in their number scrolls which have been sent home, as well.
Shaving cream on the tables!!!!!!! A favorite last day activity in first grade:

WE LOVE YOU TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We want to thank you one last time for all of the support you have given to us throughout the entire year. We cannot do it all without our amazing parents. Thank you so much. The poem below sums it up.....parents and teachers must depend on one another to help guide their children in the best way possible. Thank you for helping us guide your/our children on this incredible journey.
UNITY
I dreamed I
stood in a studio
And watched
two sculptors there,
The clay
they used was a young child’s mind
And they
fashioned it with care.
One was a
teacher:
The tools
she used were books and music and art;
One was a
parent:
With a
guiding hand and gentle loving heart.
And when at
last their work was done,
They were
proud of what they had wrought.
For the
things they had worked into the child
Could never
be sold or bought!
And each
agreed she would have failed
If she had
worked alone.
For behind the parent stood the school,
And behind
the teacher stood the home!

ONE LAST REMINDER:
Carpool Information
As St. Paul’s seeks to be a “greener” community, we are
going to reuse our carpool numbers next school year. Please,
keep your
number cards for next fall. Numbers will remain the same for the 2012-2013
school year. If you need a new card or a change in carpool number, email Maria
Meli at
mmeli@speds.org. A master
list with all carpool numbers will be available to families starting August 6,
2012 in the school website. Number cards for new families and for those
changing carpool numbers can be picked up from the students’ cubbies during
Open House.
We have loved every minute of this year!
HAVE A GREAT SUMMER!
SIGNING OFF,
Mrs. Waller and Miss Fate
