| Very Funny strategy |
The kindergarteners came to our classroom to witness first hand the "feel" of first grade. I think it helped eliminate some "butterflies" about moving to the next grade level. We partnered up and shared our favorite things about first grade. The favorites mentioned were the Famous Americans, recess on different playgrounds and we showed them where the bathrooms were:) They are not in their rooms like kindergarten.

We also borrowed the "CHICKS" on Monday and babysat them for 30 minutes, just enough time to hold them.
Now for the good stuff... we had great shapes week in Math working with Spheres, cylinders, hemispheres and triangular prisms. They will see more of this in the grades to come, we just introduce this at this level. We made the shapes with clay.

On Monday we rotated centers and played games using our addition skills, our coin knowledge where the item on the board gave a dollar and cents amount and the students had to take money from their reserve of money to pay for the items, and our time skills. The time game was challenging as it asked us to recognize the analog clocks even on the quarter hour.

We also used pre-designed cards and our pattern blocks to make shapes and patterns. These cards show a general outline and the students use the polygons, triangles and rombuses and octagons to fill in. They logged how many of each shape they used and they all used different ones.
During Integrated Language Mrs. W worked on Cinquain Poems with each of the students. We made the 5 line poems about shells. MS. L worked on guided Reading using poems. We had independent centers of poem strips that the students had to put in order that makes sense.

We went to the SECOND GRADE to see what that is all about....We partnered up and played a fraction game with a buddy from second grade and looked around. It's so exciting to think about!!!
Events for the upcoming Week-the last week of first grade --
- Field Day on Monday afternoon. Please have sunscreen on your child:) Please send water bottles. Please have them dress appropriately for the day ( tennis shoes).
Roller Skating at Winwood Skate Center on Thursday.
We were able to share in Ellie's butterfly release this week. She had 5 beautiful butterflies that we all took part in waving goodbye.
Ms. Lorfing and I would like to say thank you for sharing your darling children with us each day. They are our "sweet little ducklings". They will always carry a special place in our hearts. It's been an extraordinarily great year. So with the release of the butterflies, we release these now second graders.
