Our Cool Slices of Summer...We have had a delightful beginning to this school year. We experienced all the playgrounds, the feel of the room, the specials classes, chapels in the Main sanctuary and the commons, and our classroom schedule. Expect your child to be very tired! Obviously they are adjusting to the new schedule from summer carefree days and nights.
The students did not check out books this week because we were running late getting to the library. We have plenty of books to read in the classroom and are happy to share.
Open House was exciting! Enjoy pictures of some of our families.

Right outside our classroom is a new playground for these first graders. They were so curious and excited to explore the equipment. The monkey bars are a big hit! There were many gymnastic routines going on during our recess. The Olympics have spurred on alot of enthusiasm. When we went to the new playground on the upper field---track and field was the sport of choice. Take a look at it when you are at the school. There is a small track, 4 swings, a huge sports court with a bball goal. Thank you to the Fund a Need participants!!!

Important Reminder: On the days that your child has P.E., please
have them wear (or bring to school) appropriate shoes so they can fully
participate. Due to safety concerns, your child will not be able to participate
if they do not have safe shoes on. Examples of shoes that are not
appropriate: Sandals, Crocs, flip-flops, boots with heels, shoes with
wheels. All shoes must have skid resistant soles, cover the entire foot and be
properly secured to the foot. If you have any questions about what kinds of
shoes are permitted, please do not hesitate to email Mrs. S: cshurtleff@speds.org

As one first graders put it so well..." I know, I know these first two days are fun and great and then the torture begins!"
Any fears your child had about first grade should be gone. It's a nurturing environment to learn about eachother, learn and expand our minds and to make mistakes. The first grade team of teachers work together. We will be assessing your child in the next several weeks to find out the reading level they are on right now. We do not have spelling tests until October.
This blog is a great way for us to highlight upcoming events, although we always send notes home too. Please check the homework folder every night.
Have a great weekend. We are thrilled your child is with us.
