Short week...Happy Thanksgiving!

We had a surprise we found in the morning on Monday!  Look who we found hanging on our easel!  The Elf on the Shelf!  We read the story and he will be watching the children every day until Christmas.  The kids voted and named him Elfie!!!

This was a short week.  On Monday & Tuesday, we made cornucopias & wrote acrostic poems with the words THANK YOU.  Then, the children rolled them up like a scroll and gave their poems to a friend, parent, relative or teacher.  We also worked in our Thanksgiving packets.  We learned a Thanksgiving song and dance & watched a Thanksgiving theme video to get us in the spirit.  Ask your children to sing you the "Turkey Time" song it is a catchy tune!

In Math this week with Miss Fate we played partner centers... a pilgrim Thanksgiving game, a doubles bingo review game, a number corner beat the clock game and a guess the cusenaire color rod/amount game.  With Mrs. Waller we created a turkey with our hundreds chart.

In Social Studies we watched a YouTube video titled, "Going Hungry in America" to really show the students how to see the importance of the food drive.  We also followed up on our Hands on Science Sun Prints from last week. We read our Scholastic News about the holidays.

A note from Liz Barnes:
What an amazing ingathering we experienced in the last two weeks!  As usual, your generosity is overwhelming and the people who serve our families through the pantry are so grateful for the abundance which will help see the families they serve through the holiday season.  It was definitely a community effort, with so many bringing in items; students and faculty hauling the items to the pantry; Student Council members receiving and recording items donated; and Chaplain Nolan and Mrs. Willets supervising it all.  This year we collected a record 32,680 items for the food pantry!   Mr. Reschke’s seventh class was the overall point leader, edging out Ms. Fate’s first graders by only 49 points on the final day.  Mrs. Van Maren’s fourth grade class came in third place leading her division.  But the big winner was the St. Paul’s Food Pantry.
Thank you for giving from your hearts and demonstrating for your children the benefits of helping those less fortunate than we.

They announced on the announcements that they are counting it as a tie since our class and 7th was so close a difference of 15 snack bars so the kids were very excited as well as us!!!

Well done faithful servants! GOD BLESS YOU!! ***This definitely calls for an extra recess!!!!

*With even a small commitment during these past two weeks, you have had a HUGE effect on the fight against hunger.  We are making a difference in the lives of others.  Thanks be to God! We can’t thank you enough!!! Enjoy this week with your family & we wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!!!
