WE ARE THANKFUL.......

THIS FOOD DRIVE IS LARGER THAN ALL OF US!

We are so thankful for your children and we are having a great year! Take a look below at the pictures from this week's language arts block:

The above pictures were taken during Monday's review of nouns and verbs! We love our SMART Board!

What is a VERB? Brady draws a verb from the bucket, writes it down and illustrates the action.

"Graphetti" (Graffiti) Spelling-what a BLAST!
Avery and William work to put the word family words in ABC order.

Gus sorts the nouns and verbs.
Addie creates a picture with stickers and writes a story to tell about it!

Reaghan is on a noun scavenger hunt!

Mackenna sorts the fact families.

Annabelle on the Handwriting Without Tears Wet, Dry, Try app!

Wolf picks one noun and one verb and creates a sentence.

Bottle Cap contractions!

Our popcorn bags full of action verbs!
It is SNACK TIME! William is enjoying his homemade cranberry sauce! YUM!

Miss Fate continued with guided reading this week. The children read a variety of Thanksgiving stories and answered the questions on the dice: Who is the main character? Where does the story take place? How might this story relate to your life? etc.

Mrs. Waller continued to review verbs with the children. When finished with that we read 24 sentences all about our classmates and our teachers, we underlined the nouns in red, the verbs in blue and the adjectives in yellow. They did a great job with this guided activity.  We have also been working in our grammar books.

Below the children are working with their cuisenaire rods, coloring the correct amount of squares for each rod. This will help them understand the true value of each rod.

Tuesday, Mrs. Waller taught her "Johnny Works With One Hammer" lesson as we continue to work on building our number sense. We are seeing groups of numbers instead of counting one by one. Thursday Mrs. Waller introduced  double digit addition....the key? ALWAYS start on the right!

Jake works with five hammers.........

Reaghan joins in on the action.....the rest of us are singing the song!

We have 2 groups of 5 hammers, now we are adding 1 more! Avery joins in....
Anna is the runner who delivers the hammers as the kids are singing the song.

Our five groups of five! 5 x 5 = 25!

After our hammer display the students created their own groups on array paper!
Double Digit dominoes!

Highlight the right column....you have to start on the right!
In Social Studies we discussed Veterans Day on Monday and we have been learning all about Thanksgiving before the big day next week.

Scholastic News

In TNT we played Thanksgiving JINGO...We had fun and we learned many facts about Thanksgiving....a great review of Tuesday's social studies.

A special thanks to the PARENTS GUILD, the CULTURAL ARTS COMMITTEE and to MICHELLE STOWERS for bringing QUIXOTIC to our school. The children loved it.....we all did!

In computer lab the students visited www.primarygames.com and got to select from a variety of Thanksgiving games. Can't believe it is so close.

In Hands-On Science the students have started to create their very own SUN PRINTS. After last week's SOLAR POLAR POWER we have taken it a step further to investigate what will happen if we create collages on dark construction paper (because last week we learned that dark colors absorb sunlight) and leave them in our sunny windows for the week......stay tuned!

Our SUN PRINTS in our window!

REMINDERS:

BOOK IN A BAG PROGRAM: Our class will only be bringing the book in a bag home on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. Please remember that these books are meant to be easier and at your child's recreational level. We want their confidence to grow. We also do not want this to be too much work for you at home. When we work  with your children during guided reading we are working in books at their instructional level, harder books so we can continue to watch their reading improve and guide them along the way!

WE WILL NOT SEND A BOOK IN A BAG HOME OVER THE THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY WEEK.

WE ARE NOT SENDING HOME THE NEW SPELLING WORDS UNTIL TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK.

NO SCHOOL Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of next week. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Monday, November 26- NO SCHOOL, Teacher In-Service

We wish you a very happy Thanksgiving day! Enjoy your families! Thank you again for all you have done for the food pantry!  We are thankful for you & your children!
