AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ST. PAUL'S
Thank you so much for all the hard work you put into the paper dolls! Also, thank you for supporting your child as they memorize their speeches for our big program! We are so excited and we are hard at work.

The learning continues here in first grade as we are learning about all sorts of famous Americans as well as long "o" and long "u"/bossy e words. Mrs. Waller has continued with guided reading and Miss Fate has guided the students in their grammar books, Handwriting Without Tears workbooks and helped them as they complete their American Research. Take a look at the pictures below:
Number Scrolls

Jake places all 100 numbers on the hundred chart....

Annabelle is learning about the states.....

SPELLING SOUP

Long vowel word hunt....

In math we have continued with the concept of money. We are taking it a step further; now the children are combining different coins to make a given amount. As money continues, we also revisit the concept of place value. We are having a blast in math! On Thursday we divided ourselves up into four teams. Each team had a bowl of coins and a buzzer. Mrs. Waller gave an amount, ie: 78 cents. The first team to ring their buzzer and have the correct amount was the winner. It is so fun to watch children work together cooperatively. They do it really well. We went all the way up to $3.15!

Show Me What You Need: Reaghan draws a coin amount and colors in the coins to match the amount.

Sophia and Avery play: Build It, Make It, Break it

Wolf waits patiently to tap the buzzer....will they win?

TEAMWORK!
In social studies the students learned all about the White House and its amazing layout. They have also begun to present their Famous Americans. They have to stand in front of the class and present their research report. Their paper doll is presented as well. The audience must actively listen and are allowed to give a compliment or ask a question at the end of the presentation. We cannot believe how far your children have come.
Elvis is in the building.....

Ann Landers dishes out some great advice....
Quinn and Jackie hit the ball out of the park....

Hannah and Sally report their findings from outer space....

Addison and Ben tell us about their inventions....

Jake and Dwight tell us stories from the war....

Avery and Bessie tell us about their adventures in the air....

Marin and Eleanor talk to us about giving to others....

Charlie and Thomas share their brilliant ideas...

Ava and Emily share writing advice...

For TNT on Wednesday, both classes came together as we practiced our program for the very first time. It is going to be great.......! It is amazing how quickly they have learned their parts.

Quinn's Hoop Glider
Half of the class went to Hands-On Science on Friday while the others went to computer lab. Our chapel and parade cut into this time so we let the kids choose. Surprisingly, they were split right down the middle. In Science we created our very own HOOP GLIDERS....we continue invent. The gliders should be coming home with your child today. If your child went to the computer lab they visited http://bensguide.gpo.gov/
They were able to place each state on the U.S.A. map, they helped Ben get through a very difficult maze and were allowed to complete coloring pages of a variety of U.S.A. symbols. This would be a fun site to visit at home.

Take a look at the pictures below from our 50th parade. The festivities have begun!
