Pennies from Heaven

We are so lucky to have plastic coins, coin stamps and real coins to work with in class.

This week we have divided up and conquered many aspects of money.  We have added dimes to quarters while we moved the "marker" on the hundreds board to illustrate adding ten.  Our coins mats help us visualize the adding of these coins.  There are many ways to make 35 cents.  We added nickels to dimes and pennies to nickels.  The more we practice this the better we will be.

Menu items are a wonderful way to add 2 items together.  We were adding hotdog prices and banana splits, remembering to bring the decimal point down and keep a dollar sign to indicate we are working with money.

Mr. Simms, our piano player came to add some real music to our songs!  We got to gather around the piano and sing through our medley of American songs.  These first graders are such enthusiastic singers.

Many of our Famous Americans have been presented. The students have such a great understanding of their American.  They have poise and do not read from their report.  We are impressed.
