We LOVE 1st Grade!!!

This week we are finishing up our USA theme ......celebrating Fat Tuesday, Valentine's Day, The Chinese New Year and we are starting to transform the room into our next big theme...... Australia.

Valentine's Day Pics

We continued to give the children reading assessments.  Now that our program is over we have started up the books in a bag again.

Some of our centers this week included: Making a Valentine Heart Puppy, Frog, Bunny or Heart character, practicing time & subtraction on our new iPads, cutting out book titles and placing them in fiction/non-fiction categories, USA puzzles, Valentine's Day listening center, practiced writing sentences with conversation hearts and words, using a code & money to find how much our name is worth, number scrolls, phonics on the computer, handwriting books, when two vowels go talking the first one does the talking, putting the 50 states in ABC order, & played The Case of the Sneaky Feet game board practicing "ea" words.

In Math this week we are continuing to teach the kids about "Time."  It is a hard concept for first graders to understand.  The children are really enjoying learning about it.  We worked in Time packets and created a time line starring ME!
 

In Social Studies this week we have been reading all about George Washington & Abraham Lincoln in honor of President's Day.  We also celebrated Fat Tuesday & played Valentine's Day Jingo.  We had a special guest who was friends of Sebastian from the other first grade come and talk with the kids about The Chinese New Year!

TNT- We made a Valentine Dancer with straws & brads.  They turned out adorable!  Check them out below!



Thank you to the Morris family for donating 10 iPads to the first grade!  The kids were so excited and we love having them in our room!  They make our center time so much easier and they reinforce the skills we are teaching at school. We can't thank you enough!!!  

We also want to thank all of our parent volunteers and room mothers for helping us have a wonderful Valentine's Day Party. From bringing in the craft, to the game, to the treats & for all of the planning.  The children had such a great time!! Thank you!! Thank you!!
