Time will Tell

Only Time will tell which of these special first graders will be the next President of the United States or the first to discover a cure for cancer or a first grade teacher---We know these aspirations are a possibility!!  We have ignited an interest, a love, a passion for the good Ole' United States of America.  The students took off with their research and interest in famous Americans.  They might even have red, white and blue blood flowing through their veins now. Our last two first graders did reports with the paper dolls in hand.

Valentine's Day wouldn't be the same if we couldn't exchange cards with our seventh grade buddies.

Sebastian's friend and neighbor, Kailai came to share stories of the Chinese New Year-- 2013 is the year of the big black snake.  Kailai is from Shanghai.  We saw the size of China compared to USA.

"Tick tock around the clock, tick tock around the clock!"  Telling time on the hour and half hour is getting our attention.

We are at varying levels of ability so we adjust accordingly.  Any practice at home reading the clock on the hour or half hour would be appreciated!!!    We began by understanding the difference in the two hands on the clock.  Then we talked about how many minutes in an hour and how that shows on the clock, finally this week we read the clock.  Elapsed time will be next for some and measurement.

We do these step by step....

Note the red hair...Mrs. N made sure we had that option!

Sophie and Keira see themselves as Presidents!

Scarlett will be wearing a bow as president!   Hudson illustrates the 13 original colonies flag.

We summarized our time visiting history by talking about what we learned.  Making the "If I were president I would..." was our final culmination of the theme.  On to Australia...

Guess who made the dog box.

Valentine's Day was super special.  We loved our display of boxes made by the kids.  Thank you for the LOVE notes everyone....It's a special day indeed.  Thank you parents who send treats, volunteer their time for the parties and help the teachers cut things out weekly.  We value you!  Students have brought home notes from their classmates.  In one of our centers we offered letter writing opportunities and the students got to get in their own bubble and read them on Thursday.  Smiles lit up the room as they read nice compliments from their peers.

Happy Valentine's Day...I love you
