EARTH DAY CIRCLES

Hopefully we are over this weather and spring in on its way...if not, we may have to work our fairy tale magic! We have remained busy this week, check out the pictures below from our literacy learning time:

In math this week we continued to learn more about measurement.  We have also been working more with our hundred charts to help increase our number sense. Your children are well on their way to second grade! We have reviewed 2D shapes so we can move on to 3D shapes!

In social studies we have started to present our fairy tale banners and the plans for our first grade lemonade and cookie stand are well on their way. Hip Hop 4 Haiti-We Choose to Change the World! Fliers for your child to distribute will be on their way home soon.

In computer lab we re-visited ABCya.com to review many different math concepts. For the first time we played Number Race and they loved it. This game reviewed odd/even and greater than/less than!

After a fall on Thursday, Anna is back with us! Thank goodness. Anna was so brave and your children were so concerned about her. After she fell, everyone wanted to help and they were all asking if she was OK. Many suggested we write her get well cards. Your children are so thoughtful. We are glad Anna is well and we are ready to support her as her foot heals!

REMINDERS:

-If you have not done so already, please send an empty cereal box with your child. We will use them in hands on science next  week.Thanks! 

-April 29th the Kindergartners are coming to visit First Grade and hear all about it from your children 

Friday, May 3rd: your child can dress up as their favorite fairy tale character to help us conclude our theme. This is completely optional. 

-May 10th: Mrs. Goodrich is coming in the morning to cook with our kids.  We have our book swap more info. to come soon. 

Friday, May 10th is also our 1st grade lemonade stand @ the Morris' home. The sign up came out yesterday. Please let us know if you did not receive it. Thank you in advance for your support.

-May 13th- in the morning we are going on a field trip.  We will walk to the Nelson Art Gallery Museum to see a book written by John Agee titled The Incredible Painting of Felix Clousseau.  This is in cconjunction with The Reading Reptile. Students from the art institute are creating a life size/walk-through version of the book in a giant classroom at the Nelson.  For more information contact Mr. N. 

-May 23rd- On the last day of school we take a field trip to the Winnwood Skating Center. 1st & 2nd grades both attend. More information will come out soon.
