And They Lived Happily Ever After!

 From princes and princesses to pigs and beasts, we've seen it all during our fairytale unit!  What an adventure we've had!!  Next week we'll move into the merry month of May and begin a new unit on poetry. 

 

 On Monday, the kindergarteners came by for a visit to first grade.  All the BIG first graders were excellent hosts and did a wonderful job helping to prepare them for their move into the new building and into 1st grade!  It seems like it was yesterday when our "almost 2nd graders" were here for a visit.  My, how time does fly!

 This week in integrated language we worked on homophones, synonyms and plurals.  We continue to work on descriptive writing skills and this week we practiced with a nice note to "Mom".  We also practiced our spelling words using watercolors.  Using a white crayon on white paper they "magically" showed up once the watercolors were added. 

In TNT we learned where May Day came from and some of the traditions people share on this day around the world.  We learned in Greece, children do not go to school on May Day so they can celebrate this day of flowers with their family and friends!  We practiced decorating a Maypole just as others do around the world.  We also made May baskets to give to neighbors, family and friends. 

 In math we learned about the process of grouping things together through a fun song called, "Johnny Works with One Hammer".  We used grid paper and crayons to show how things can be grouped.  A lot of moving and swinging was used in order to show Johnny working with more than one hammer!  

We also worked with modeling clay to form each of the 3-D shapes we've been learning about in class.  This process took patience and perseverance in order to form each shape.

 

 Thanks to all the parents who searched for and sent in veggies for our stone soup.  It was so delicious and it was fun to go back to the kindergarten kitchen. Teamwork abounded as everyone worked to chop, dice, and prepare this yummy soup.  Many were wide-eyed as Mrs. W. pulled out the "stone" only to be relieved to find they would be using potatoes instead!
