First Upon A Time ......& They Lived Happily Ever After...The End

We are finishing up our Fairy Tales & Folktales theme...it was short and sweet.  Next week, we will be moving onto our last short theme The Merry Month of May & Poetry. We can't believe it is May!!!

We were so excited to tell the Kindergartners all about first grade!!! We read them our notes we wrote them and showed them all of the exciting things we do in first grade.  It seems like yesterday we were sitting in their shoes.

In Math, we have been continuing to review 2D shapes & we have now introduced 3D shapes.  We have also been reviewing place value and 100's charts.

During Social Studies this week we talked about supply & demand.  We also discussed prices for our lemonade stand.  We are brainstorming how much we think we should charge for cookies and lemonade.  We finished presenting all of our book banners as we close our Fairy Tale & Folktale theme.  We worked in our theme notebooks.

TNT (Try New Things) this week we are working on a Mother's Day Surprise so we can't tell you about it.....but it will come home next week just in time for Mother's Day.

Hands on Science: This week we used our cereal boxes to make constellations.  We used flashlights in the dark to see the constellation shine through our boxes on the wall.  The lights are on in this picture so we could show you what we are doing.

iPads this week we played on a bunch of different apps: MeGenius, Flow, Sticker Sudoku & Sushi Monster Math.

*Next week is our last week for Books in a Bag.  We will do them next T,W,TH & then that will be it for the year.  Please make sure we have the book & the bag back & turned in by next Friday.

-May 10th: Mrs. Goodrich is coming in the morning to cook with our kids.  We will have the book swap in the afternoon.....more info. to come soon

-Friday, May 10th is also our 1st grade lemonade stand @ the Morris' home right after school from 4:00-6:00pm. The sign up came out through email. Please let us know if you did not receive it. Thank you for your support.

-May 13th- in the morning around 9:15-10:45ish we are going on a field trip.  We will go to the KC Art institute to see a book written by John Agee titled The Incredible Painting of Felix Clousseau.  This is in cconjunction with The Reading Reptile. Students from the art institute are creating a life size/walk-through version of the book in a giant classroom at the Nelson. 

-May 23rd- On the last day of school we take a field trip to the Winnwood Skating Center. 1st & 2nd grades both attend.  The field trip is from 9:30-12:30ish. More information will come out soon.
