A short spooktacular week!

The "before" shot of some very nice looking 1st graders ready to perform!
The "after" shot when the zombies took over the first graders! Ahhh!!!! ZOMBIE STYLE!
Rehearsal time

Gettn down, zombie style!

With our short week we decided to change things up a bit in language arts and forgo the tic tac toe boards.  So, we worked in 3 small groups on various skills.  Our focus was on the short "o" vowel, nouns, adjectives, handwriting without tears and finishing up our spooky Halloween stories.  We're looking forward to sharing them with you at conferences!

Hard workers focusing on short "o" words.

Handwriting without tears practice.

Finishing up our Halloween stories.
We had fun this week because Mrs. Jones came in to help us work on our stories!
Going on a noun search.  Looking for people, places and things.

John loves looking for nouns!

Noun teamwork!
I spy a noun!!
We described our bears using as many different adjectives we could showing size, shape, color, etc.
We came up with many different words (adjectives) to describe our bears!

Look at these cute girls, pretty in pink stripes!

In social studies we learned about 2 more bears.  We learned about the spectacled bear looks like he's wearing glasses and the sun bear has a mark on his chest that looks like the sunrise.  Ask your child other fun facts about these 2 interesting bears.

In math we focused on missing addends.  It helped to use manipulatives like the dots in this booklet so we could better understand how to find the missing addend.

Sophie and Maya are sharing their missing addend booklets to practice.
After reading many of our all time favorite Eric Carle books such as "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" we made our own Eric Carle brown bears, black bears and panda bears.

We used combs to show the texture of the bear's thick fur.

Carter's mom helped us with our bear projects.  Thank you!!
