Math
This week in math, we continued to learn about doubles +1 facts. If we know that 2+2=4, then we should know right away that 2+3=5 because we are adding one. We also did Bear Logic where students had to figure out the answer to a logic problem based on clues given. We began to introduce a new math tool called cuisenaire rods. These tools help students visualize different numbers and equations. We will continue to use them throughout the year as we get into more difficult addition and subtraction. Students can also use these to begin seeing the concept of multiplication and division in a concrete way.

Social Studies
In Social Studies this week, we finished our study of bears. We've had so much fun learning about the different types of bears so we decided to enjoy a "Polar Bear Pie" ice cream treat. Students had to make a prediction about how many bites it would take to finish their treat and come up with some great descriptions of our treats (how cold, how white, etc.) We also created a bear boxes poster to showcase everything we have learned about bears!

Computer Lab
We played Drop Sum to reinforce our friends of 10 and Raceway Number Values to practice greater than, less than, and equal to. Both of these games are located in the 1st grade section of abcya.com
