Math
In math this week we took a math assessment over all the concepts and skills we have learned about so far in first grade!  You won't believe how far we have come and it is only October!  We will share these with you at Parent/Teacher Conferences.  We also finished up some math centers on: pumpkin doubles, missing addends, number story collection packets & filling in a 100's chart.  We sorted our teddy bears and learned about bar graphs.

FIELD TRIP TO THE PUMPKIN PATCH (We will post our pictures from this on the next blog since we have so many of them).

We had a blast at Carolyn's Country Cousins Pumpkin Patch on Thursday. We got to see pigs, goats, peacocks, chickens and turkeys, to just name a few. We learned all about different types of pumpkins and how they grow. We also went on a wagon ride and got to pick out our perfect pumpkin. We loved running through the corn maze.  It was the perfect day for our field trip, the sun was shining and the sky was blue. We ate lunch and got an extra long recess on their amazing playground. Thank you to all the parents that were able to join us & we loved our pumpkin doughnuts!  You are the best!!!

  TNT
Try New Things--This week we made Brown Grizzly Bear Paper Plate Faces & we learned all about the Brown Grizzly Bears.

SOCIAL STUDIES

We have been continuing to  learn about the Brown Bears, Grizzly Bears, Black Bears, & Asiatic Black Bears in our theme notebooks.  These theme pages are much more informative compared to our last theme.  We also read our Scholastic news articles and answered the comprehension questions over each article.

HANDS ON SCIENCE

This week we did a gummy bear hands on science experiment to see what happens when we drop a gummy bear in a cup of water.  We will have to wait and see...results to come later on.

COMPUTER LAB/IPADS

On the iPads we did the Friends of Ten & Futaba apps.  It was so much fun!

Spelling
The children did great on the first & second tests.  Here are the words for the next test.  We will start grading the Spelling Tests with N (needs improvement) S (satisfactory) O (outstanding) .  They will be graded on Spelling Words, Challenge Words, Sentences & Neatness starting next week.  All the sentences are made up and used from the spelling words.  Occasionally there will be sight words in the sentences they should know how to spell.  We will build on the sentences each week.  We will say them orally over and over and  start easy.  Then, we will move our way up to 5 sentences. Please help prepare your children for the grading.
