Busy bears!

Language Arts-

October is such a busy and fun time in 1st grade!! We started the week on TUESDAY by going over all of our centers for the short week. We focused on short o this week as our phonics skill. In groups, students worked on a response activity with a leveled book and have begun writing their Halloween stories. We are so excited to show them off at conferences!

 We made Polar Bear Puppets!!!  Then, we wrote facts about them on the back. Check them out below...

 

Math- 

This week in math we learned all about the concept < > = .  We also took our DOUBLES TEST  and everyone did great on it!!!

 

 

Social Studies

We learned about the Polar Bear & worked in our theme pages.  We also had music program practice during our Social Studies time.  You won't believe how well these first graders can sing!!!!

In Hands-On Science 

This week the children created SUN PRINTS! Since we have been learning about the polar bear and its black skin....we started to wonder what would happen to a piece of black construction paper if we cut out shapes, glued them to the black paper and put them in the window????? Will the sun be attracted to the black paper?  Will the black paper fade?  How does the polar bear's dark skin help keep it warm in arctic temperatures??? So many questions....stay tuned!

***There will not be a spelling test next Friday the kids have the day off but we will continue the spelling tests the following week.  The words for this test are listed above if you want to get an early start.  Otherwise, the spelling words will come home next week for this test.
