| OUR HALLOWEEN STYLE! |
| IT'S ALL GOOD on Halloween! |
WOW! What a week......we have been busy as we conclude our study of bears and celebrate Halloween! Our classroom has been full of energy and excitement. Take a look at the pictures below from our integrated language arts time in the mornings.
| The students finish a cloze passage to help summarize their story in guided reading. |
| Adjective work in our grammar books! |
| Working independently during integrated language arts time... |
| Rocket Speller app |
| Our setting (where and when the story takes place) sort! |
| Carmen finishing her NOUN Book and Naomi reading FROG AND TOAD! |
In math this week we have reviewed greater than, less than and equal to using Allie the Alligator who likes to eat BIG numbers! The children have worked independently, with partners and with their bears to deepen their knowledge of this concept. We also sorted our bears according to different attributes. Once we sorted them we compared the amount in each group! Check out the pictures below:
| Rolling the dice to compare numbers! |
| Adding three dice together, then comparing two numbers! |
| Looking closely at our bears....iris or no iris??? That is the question! |
| Sofia places the > sign....were there more bears with brown noses or black noses???? |
| Our comparisons! |
In social studies we have wrapped up our unit on bears as we studied the sloth bear and the panda bear. The students created their very own flip book illustrating their knowledge of our last four bears: the sun bear, the spectacled bear, the panda and the sloth bear. It has been so much fun as we have used our bears in all subject areas. It will be sad to see our bears go home. (On that note, we are going to let the teddy bears stay one more week-we still have a few activities to complete!)
| Sophia is working hard to complete her flap book! |
In TNT this week we created skeletons with Q-tips, cotton balls, and glue. This activity helped us in the development of our fine motor skills and we are improving in our ability to apply Elmer's Glue! WOW!

THE TEDDY BEAR PICNIC
We had fun eating lunch with our bears and reviewing all the "beary" fun facts we've learned!
| Elizabeth shared a joke her mom wrote for her to read during the picnic, "What do polar bears eat for lunch? Ice-burg-ers! |
| We played a mystery game where clues were read and pieces of the picture were shown until they guessed which bear was behind the screen! These first graders are bear experts! |
| Beary good lunches! Notice Lamar's shirt with the bears on it? He was ready to go on a bear hunt today, with a bear treat bag attached at the hip. I think he was successful!! |
Special thanks to John's mom for the beary good cookies and to Jackson and Naomi's moms for the gummy bears!
| John's mom was able to come in and help out in the class this week and read a book everyone LOVED, "Wacky Wednesday" By Dr. Suess. THANK YOU! |
