IT'S ALL GOOD IN THE FIRST GRADE!

Well, you can't let a few snow days throw you off track.....Your children had a fabulous practice Monday morning, which was their first time on the stage! AMAZING! We have high expectations for your children and they always seem to exceed them. It has been a short week, but please enjoy the blog and all the fabulous pictures from our three day week.
America JINGO-a review of our American facts!
Thursday morning we completed another journal entry as we learned more about the history of the White House. We were able to get a few more famous American presentations in during social studies this week and we continued with our Flat Stanley graphing lessons during math. Take a look at these pictures:
Annie Oakley, Juliette Gordon Low, and our very own Sacagawea!
Jesse Owens, Rosa Parks and Georgia O'Keefe

Graphing our FLAT SELVES according to our eye color!
We placed the data on our very own graphs in the classroom!

The next attribute: SHOE STYLE

OUR FIRST GRADE FLAT SELVES!

Mrs. Waller and Mrs. Wyllie knew that there was a little snow expected to hit Kansas City! As a result, the children became detectives as they went on a hunt for TRACKS IN THE SNOW! Don't worry....it was an indoor hunt! We studied the tracks of various animals that might make tracks in the states of Missouri and Kansas. Then we sent your children on their way.....take a look at the pictures below.  They had to match the name of the animal with a picture of their prints.  The pictures were hidden in both first grade classrooms:

In computer lab the children visited a great new website: www.practicalmoneyskills.com/games/
to review their coin recognition and other money skills! They played Peter Pig's Money Counter, Ed's Bank, Cash Puzzler and they had a blast!

SPELLING
This week your children will need to know how to spell their first & last name, address and the best phone number to reach you in case of an emergency. We will be sending home a packet to help them practice. GOOD LUCK!

*****We are also sending an envelope home with your child today. If you would have your child please put their name, address and phone number on the envelop and bring it back Monday that would be great. We are going to be doing some activities and they will need to have this information to complete them. Thank you.

Carey and I want to thank you for your support during this unit and your flexibility. We know your lives are busy. We appreciate the time and effort you put in to help us make this unit such a amazing one for your children. They have made so much progress in their reading and writing abilities; not to mention their ability to read directions and function independently in the classroom which is just as important. THANK YOU!

We will enjoy Valentine's Day next week and a few more rehearsals as we prepare for Thursday's performance. Again, thank you for your understanding and your support.

Below Sophia shares the news of the newest addition to their family: Cordelia Rose Lydian Marien-Brovont. Congratulation to the Marien-Brovonts, now a family of four! We also got to celebrate Maya's birthday with her on Thursday. We were so happy to be at school and able to share her day with her!
