Bears, Bears, Bears OH MY!!!

We have started our new theme BEARS!!!!

This week we have been busy working on short i, guided reading learning about deductive reasoning...reading pictures to get more out of the story, guided writing our own first story, studying our spelling words, ordering numbers, practicing our handwriting, sorting short o, a, u words, learning all about adjectives, practicing with the October calendar, working on skip counting, spelling words with bananagrams, reading about grizzly bears, making bear finger puppets, reviewing odd & even numbers, ten frames with unifix cubes, & we are using our writing words books.

During math we are working on math story problems, learning about doubles plus 1, missing addends and we graphed our predictions for Baby Sansale......most of the class guessed a girl.  The kids wore blue bow ties or pink bows to show their guess......It's a GIRL!!!

In Social Studies, we have started a KWL bear chart to get us excited about BEARS!!!  We also learned about the Brown Bear, Kodiak Bear, Asian Black Bear, American Black Bear & Grizzly Bears.  

We went on a field trip to Carolyn's Pumpkin Patch.  It was a blast!  Each child picked a pumpkin to take home, went on a hayride and enjoyed the petting zoo.

So tired on the bus ride home zzzzzzzzz!

Hands on Science: We learned all about bears and we did a hands on science experiment with Gummy Bears, water and a clear plastic cup.  We have to wait until after the weekend to see what happens.....to be continued.....

Computer Lab: The children made wordles using adjectives to describe themselves on www.abcya.com. They printed them and will be bringing them home today!
