Bye Bye Bears!!!

During center time this week....we reviewed nouns, spelling words, adjectives, subtraction, contractions, played boggle, sketched in our Halloween books, worked on word scrambles, story writing, listening center, Halloween puppets and read bear facts.

With the teachers guided the children started their book in a bag program.  They learned all about text-to-self connections, text-to-text connections, and text-to-world connections with Mrs. Sansale.  We introduced a new concept of singular and plurals with Miss O'Connor this is a hard concept we will continue to work on throughout the year.  We also worked on Handwriting without Tears and practiced our Capital Letters.  We guided the children through the letters in their handwriting books.

For TNT (try new things) this week we made Polar Bear Puppets.  The children wrote some polar bear facts down and created a polar bear puppet out of a white paper sack.

We read with our 7th Grade buddies to get us ready for the book fair this week.   Thank you to all the parents that helped with the book fair.  Thank you for supporting our class in reading book fair pages.

In math this week....With Mrs. Sansale we had all the children introduce their teddy bears to the class.  We met Strawberry, Rudolph, Tulullah, Snow, Scottland, Charel, Fire, Skater Snow Ice, Edelman, Bongo Bear, Snowball, Be, Klondike, Snowbell, Coffee & Snowflake.  Some came from the attic, from a grandparent, when they were babies or as a gift.  We grouped our teddy bears by different attributes.  We sorted them and then graphed them out in the commons.  Then, we did some subtraction questions over our graph.  We also played Slides & Ladders with Subtraction it is a similar game to Chutes & Ladders but with math.

Fact Family Kites

With Miss O'Connor they played Scoot your boot with a subtraction number line.  They learned how to write vertical subtraction problems and even met Linus the Minus.

Social Studies this week we continued to finish the rest of our theme pages all about bears.  The kids even interviewed their own teddy bears to find out some fun information about them.  The bear theme pages will come home at the end of the week.  Praise your children for doing such a good job on them!

Hands on Science: The kids enjoyed some Klondike Polar Bear Pie as a special treat to end our bear theme.  We did a hands on science experiment to see how many bites it takes us to eat our special treat.  YUMMY!!!!
Computer Lab/iPads: They learned how to log on to the computers and they played Balloon Pop Subtraction on abcya.com
