We still BELIEVE! What a ride it has been....and we have learned so much in our classroom because of the ROYALS! We have discussed how their determination and perseverance have brought our community together and given our beautiful city so much exposure. We have also talked about how happy the ROYALS have made us feel and how much JOY they have brought our classroom....WE BELIEVE they will dominate next year....WORLD SERIES 2015, here we come...at least that is what this first grade class BELIEVES!
Now, back to the hard work we have been doing this week! We are still deep into our study of bears and we have also
celebrated Halloween! Our classroom has been full of energy and
excitement. Take a look at the pictures below from our integrated
language arts time in the mornings.

In math this week we have
reviewed greater than, less than and equal to using Allie the Alligator
who likes to eat BIG numbers! The children have worked independently,
with partners and with their bears to deepen their knowledge of this
concept. We also sorted our bears according to different attributes.
Once we sorted them we compared the amount in each group! The children have also been working with Ms. Lorfing in their theme notebooks, to complete BEAR LOGIC. It is a fun way to introduce the children to problems that require logic to solve. They love it! Check out the
pictures below:
 |
| Raquel rolls the dice and compares the numbers! |
 |
| Hard at work comparing numbers! |
 |
| 3 bears had bows, 14 bears did not have bows.....3 < 14! |

| BEAR LOGIC....a fun way to use our brains! |
In social studies we have moved on to the last four bears: the sun bear, the spectacled bear, the
panda and the sloth bear. It has been so much fun as we have continued to use our
bears in all subject areas. Hard to believe we only have one more week of this great theme! Your children have come so far since the beginning of the school year! WOW!
 |
| Raquel and Asa busy summarizing the information they read in their theme notebook... |
In TNT this week, using the knowledge they have gained over the past several weeks, the children created their very own bear habitat!
Take a look at a few pics from our trip to the Folly. The children loved CURIOUS GEORGE! A special thanks goes out to our Cultural Arts Committee for providing us with this great opportunity!
