Diving Into FALL!

'TIS THE HOLIDAY SEASON!
THANK YOU FOR THE SUPPORT OF OUR FOOD PANTRY......

We are hard at work this week after wrapping up our teddy bear unit. The children came back to school on Monday ready to learn! We jumped right into our integrated language arts time as we explained the new tic-tac-toe boards. Take a look at the pictures below as the students work independently as well as with their teachers:

Lila practices her spelling words with READ IT, TRACE IT,  COLOR IT!

HANDWRITING WITHOUT TEARS!

SUBTRACTION BOWLING!

Mrs. Waller guided the children in their grammar books as we learned about the naming and telling parts of sentences (subject/predicate).

Our Veterans Day Packet!

We placed our spelling words in our Writing Words Book!

Finley listens to a story on TUMBLE BOOKS!
Ordinal numbers review....
Guided reading with Ms. Lorfing!

In math this week, Mrs. Waller introduced the concept of Fact Families. There are three numbers in a fact family for example: 5, 6, & 11 and these three numbers can create four math equations: 5+6=11, 6+5=11, 11-5=6, 11-6=5.  Since the children have learned about the ability to switcheroo addition problems and that the biggest number always goes first in subtraction.....they have caught on quickly. We will continue to review subtraction as well as we build concept upon each concept.

The children cut and paste a FACT FAMILY!

FACT FAMILIES with dominoes!
What are the four equations that go with this family?

A review of >, <, and = !
During TNT we visited the computer lab and introduced DANCE MAT TYPING to the kids.
The students learned about the home row on the keyboard and how their hands should be placed. This is a great site that takes the children through different levels as they progress. Your kids picked this up so quickly.....visit dance mat typing at home and they will be typing research papers in no time at all!  Visit the link below:

Learning the HOME ROW!

In social studies Ms. Lorfing discussed Veterans Day on Monday and discussed the importance of giving thanks to those that have served our country.  The children have also been exploring what and how animals survive the winter....pretty fitting with the polar vortex we have been experiencing. Next week, we plan to celebrate THANKSGIVING...such a great time of year!
