Spring break is on the way, and we've had a very busy week! We celebrated different cultures at the International Festival, saw the middle school musical, AND we have been working on fractions, building our knowledge of Australia, and learning controlled vowels "ar" and "er." Your kiddos are doing such great work!

In math this week we continued learning about fractions. We learned how to partition shapes into equal parts (halves and fourths), write fractions, and recognize how many parts of a whole there are. We made "fractionpillars" to learn parts of the whole and used dominoes to practice writing fractions and coloring parts of a whole.
In social studies we continued learning about Australian animals. Ms. Lorfing's class started sharing their animal reports; Mrs. Sansale's class will begin the week after spring break. We will have two more weeks of our Australian theme before moving on to Folktales & Fairy tales in April.
In hands-on science we did an oil spill experiment to see how water and oil react. Since we've been talking about coral reefs and wildlife in the ocean, we discussed how difficult it might be to clean up oil in the water and also what the result would be on living things.
