 What a fun...CrAzY day!  We loved acting out our fairytale characters today!

We enjoyed our "end of theme" cookies in the shape of castles, carriages and wands.  Thank you to the Kostners for providing this special treat for the first grade!

We have also been hard at work during our language arts block in the mornings.  Take a look at the pictures below as we continue to read with the teacher, learned all about VERSATILES- a fun way to review skills, practice our spelling, work with nouns, verbs and adjectives and much, much more!

 During math this week we have had the opportunity to review many different skills we've learned throughout the year.  Place value to hundreds, addition, subtraction facts into the hundreds, counting and identifying money and solving word problems are important skills to know before moving on to 2nd grade!

 

In social studies in Ms. Lorfing's class we had the opportunity to share some of our fantastic cooperative group story maps about a fairytale or folk tale.  Each group divided up the presentation to make sure everyone had equal time to share.  Everyone did such an incredible job working together and learning from their classmates. 

During TNT, Ms. Lorfing's class discussed May Day (which is this Sunday) and where this tradition began and why.  We watched a video which shows children in England celebrating May Day by dancing with ribbon around the May Pole.  We also made May baskets and cards to go with them. Students were told to deliver them to a special neighbor or friend to wish them a happy spring!

In TNT Mrs. Sansale's class worked on trioramas of different fairy tales and folktales.  They added lots of important details to retell the main events of the story.

 

Getting ready for the lemonade and cookie stand!! 
We have worked so hard to be prepared for our stand.  We have made posters and fliers, set goals for success,  discussed economics, supply and demand, counting change, the jobs involved at the stand and proper etiquette while working and talking to customers.  Whew...what an event! 

 

In hands-on-science we explored our science books and learned more about life cycles of a plant and life on a farm. 

In computer lab we worked on ipads and made up our own fairytale/folk tale with the app called "Puppet Pals".

1^st Grade Lemonade and Cookie Stand to benefit Holy Cross School in HAITI!

Friday, May 6^th @ 1000 W. 56^th Street (Corner of Belleview)

4:00-6:00 pm

Our first graders are learning what it means and how it feels to SERVE others! We are helping Holy Cross School by providing funds for student books, chairs for teachers and students, beans and rice for lunches and other necessary school supplies.

REMINDERS...

Field trip Tuesday, May 3rd.  Students need to bring a lunch to school.  We will eat in the classroom after we return. 

Lemonade stand Friday 4-6pm 

Book swap...Friday May 6th...students can bring in gently used books to exchange.  Must be 1st grade reading level or higher.  Students will be able to exchange up to 5 books but may donate more.  

WOW! It is almost May. We are trying to take in every last minute possible with your children. We can't imagine a day without them! We will be moving on to our MERRY MONTH OF MAY theme as we introduce the children to the wonderful world of poetry! TIME IS FLYING BY.....enjoy and have a great weekend!
