A poem in honor of our Merry Month of May:
1st grade
1st grade is the best,
simply better than the rest!
We work and we play,
we wish in 1st grade we could stay!
| Mrs. Sansale's class is popping a balloon each day for the last nine days of school.... |
| Inside the balloons are fun things to do like switch cubbies for the day, switch seats for the day, draw tickets for prizes etc. |
Language Arts
We love poetry! Many of our centers and guided groups this week focused on writing different types of poetry and reading poems as well. We have been doing creative writing, grammar, phonics, and writing in our handwriting books. !THIS IS OUR LAST WEEK OF CENTERS....It is always a bittersweet time for us. We have had a wonderful year. Your children have been amazing and it has been so fun to watch them grow. Thank you for sharing them with us and thank you for your unwavering support. The "fabulousness" that goes on in first grade could not be accomplished without our parents.
Math Centers in Ms. Lorfing's class.....
Math- In math this week in Mrs. Sansale's class we are working on learning the different math strategies in our Problem Solving packets. We have learned all about Logical reasoning, making an organized list, act out or use objects, use or make a table, work backwords, or make it simpler. The kids are getting really good with the different strategies. These skills and concepts will really help them when they get older.

TNT- We had a surprise going away party for Anthony, Jasmine and Elliott on the upper field. We had their parents join us and all the kids told them why they will miss them!

Hands on Science: The kids found out that popcorn was an important food to the Native Americans and was served at the First Thanksgiving. Popcorn is sold in 99%of movie theaters. The people of Minnesota eat more popcorn per person than people do anywhere in the US. Archaeologists have found that popcorn is more than 1,000 years old!
They changed the variables during the experiment to see if the popcorn would pop. Then, the kids taste tested it.
REMINDERS:
Next week, there are activities almost everyday. Take a look below for the important information. If you have any questions, please let us know!

MONDAY:
F FIELD DAY for us starts at 1:00pm...
In addition to having students wear appropriate shoes, please have students dress in comfortable/appropriate clothing that could potentially get wet during the water relay station. And of course, for kids/parents that are worried about students that get really wet, an extra change of clothes is always an option.
· Sunscreen: while not all of the stations are outside, please advise parents that a majority of the time will be spent on the field and that either packing sunscreen with students to put on after lunch or applying it on in the a.m. is recommended.
· Water: There will be a water/bathroom break scheduled in the rotations, and also a chance to get water on the field, but in the past we have had some students bring their own water bottles which helps with transition if you would like to include that as an option.
· 1st and 2nd will have popsicles delivered on the South Playground (facing Starbucks) at 3:00
