Bears, bears, bears...

This week we have worked through several Bear Logic pages in our theme notebooks. We really have to think about the problems and use the process of elimination to find our answer. No room for "sleepy sloths" during this process!

The beginning of the week we read with our buddies in seventh grade. We read selections from the books we have already read in class. The Book Fair was a huge success! Thank you to all the volunteers who worked tireless hours to pull it off . Our first grade class, just Mrs. Wiedeman's room, read 3,204 pages during the course of 4 nights. I am so proud of your readers. I am so proud of you parents for emphasizing the importance of reading for enjoyment. Cole won the drawing for a free cupcake from Reading Reptile. Just in one night, in honor of Matt Skeens, our school read 30,000 pages which raised $1,500 for the library materials in Matt's honor. We encourage you to keep the Skeens family in your prayers with your children. Matt was a part of St. Paul's school since preschool. He was a junior at Pembroke, and a treasured friend to many. The outpouring of support has been amazing from this community.

David Nieves, a herpetologist and author came on November 2nd to share his fabulous friends with us. He traveled from Nebraska with an alligator, snapping turtle, blue tongued skink ( native to Australia) and a rat snake.

Bear Planet scripts came home with your children today. We talked to them about "cueing " them by reading the lines or two before their actual lines.

This morning at chapel we had the honor of listening to Grace and Lily who played Pachelbel's Canon on the violin and the piano. We also had Olivia who sang our thank you song. The chapel service was very special to honor those who have passed before us.

Please read through the lines from "Bear Planet" this weekend with your child. The script has to come back every day. Please help your child take responsibility for this.

The spelling test is not until November 19th because they have lines to learn for Bear Planet.

The words are: get, green, don't, have, nine, old, red, seven, go Challenge words( only if your child wants the challenge) are November, turkey, claws, polar, and their surprise the teacher word.

November 18th at 9:00 a.m. in the MPR is our culminating activity, Bear Planet, where the students get to pass on their information about bears.

We are Beary lucky to be with your children!!!

Books in a bag, which will get more explaination, will start after Thanksgiving.
