On Tuesday we rode to Carolyn's Pumpkin Patch in Liberty Missouri. It was a beautiful fall day, a little windy but no rain, as the forecast predicted. The class rode the train and took a hayride to the pumpkin patch to pick out a pie baking pumpkin. We had a lesson about all the types of pumpkins and squashes back inside away from the elements. Back outside we went to gobble down our lunches, we actually had to hold down our lunches so they wouldn't blow away.

Calling all witches, goblins, dragons, lizards, fairies, lions, cavemen etc...it was time for the Halloween Ball! It was such an exciting time to sing our Halloween songs we have sung during chapel. We paraded around for the primary and ECC. I have to hand it to you parents, the costumes were fantastic! These children parade around like proud peacocks showing those costumes off.

In science we demonstrated with use of cooking oil on student volunteer hands what a polar bear's fur is like. The bear's fur is so oily that the cold water repels off the fur so they don't get so cold in the arctic cold water. We also put gummy bears in water and let the cups sit for a while to see if the gummy bear grows. Indeed it did! The gummy bear grew over the course of several hours.
Thank you to all for coming to conferences. We love your children. The year has been so full for the teachers...full of joyous moments, active learning, sunshine days on recess, and friendships forged. Your children take in so much information during their school day. The pictures below show their use of the reading tools we have for quiet reading. They are reading directions first before their independent work. It is hard not to ask the teacher first before reading directions, so the independent move to directions first is a big move.

Enjoy the weekend.
