Final Days in First...

This is our final full week in first grade we can't believe how fast this year has gone by......

Simile Poems with Mrs. Waller-- Come check them out and read them outside our door.
The children have been busy writing.  They are writing about similes, poems and the best thing that happened to them this year.  In Social Studies with Miss Fate they learned how to write about Summer Senses Poems, the 5 W's Poems, and how to write a Bio Poem.  You wouldn't believe how much the kids love reading the poems.

The kids reviewed Mountain Language & Mountain Math in a guided center.  These charts review concepts from the entire year.

They played on the Cimo Spelling App as well as ABC Write & ABC Lite word apps on the iPads.  These reviewed spelling as well as handwriting practice.

We have been working in our Grammar & Phonics books.  They will come home  with pages left in them and the kids can finish them over the summer to review certain skills and concepts.  Be on the lookout for these as they come home late this week or early next week.
The children sorted poetry strips into the correct word order.  It was a puzzle trying to figure out the order of the poem but, it was fun!

The first graders went over to visit 2nd Grade.  They learned all about the new themes they will be studying next year.

We worked on our spelling words for the last spelling test.  We put them in ABC order and then wrote them down.  We can't believe this is our last week of spelling tests!

TNT "Try New Things"

Spider Web of Compliments

Can you walk through?... it don't hit the yarn!

Thanks to Miss Stephenson for bringing over the baby chicks from Kindergarten.  The kids loved petting, holding and watching them.

These week the first graders wrote advice for the Kindergartners.  They are telling them all about first grade.  The favorite thing they said was, "TNT is not a bomb it is Try New Things!" ha ha!  Then, they shared everything they know about first grade them with them.  The Kindergartners loved listening to them and asking them questions about first grade.

Chapel leaders & song leaders for the day....

Hands on Science: This is a good experiment to do outside, over a sink or tub to catch the drips. Fill the plastic zipper-lock bag with water more than half full.  Seal the bag and then take your pencils and carefully poke them through the bag and through the water, out to the other side.  There may be a few leaks and drips, but the bag should seal itself around the pencil and keep the water from spilling.  How does this work? The plastic bag is made of polymers. Polymers are long chains of molecules. When you poke through the plastic, you are stabbing between the long strands of polymers and the bag seals itself around the pencil keeping the water inside. Just watch out when you remove the pencils. Shower time!

WOW!!!

Some of us got soaked with water but all in all it was so much fun!

Computer Lab: Since it was our last one they had free choice day where they could pick any website we have played on all year.It was so much fun!
