From the "Snowy" Land Down Under!

Kangaroos, Koalas, and Wombats, OH MY!!
What a FUN SHORT week!!
We were all so excited on Tuesday to find out what Australian animal we would each study during this theme.  There were gasps, oohs and aahhs as Mrs. Wiedeman announced each student's assignment with an image of the animal on the white board.  Next Friday will be the day each life size animal will be created and painted with the help of some of our parent volunteers.  Then, lookout as your child's animal comes home for some extra added touches from the family.  More info on this fun project to come!

Marsupials have invaded our room!!

We made a K-W-L chart (what we Know, Want to learn and what we have Learned) about Australian animals.  Next week we will begin working on researching our animals and will start our reports.  These first graders WOW'd us with their presentation skills while sharing their famous Americans so we can't wait to see what they have to share next!  It is hard to stand in front of peers and present at such a young age.  These opportunities are the first of many here at St. Paul's!
Mrs. W. showing how a kangaroo can hop!!

Our focus in math continues to be on telling time.  This week we worked on counting by 5s around the clock and recognizing times given such as  25 minutes past the hour.  Next week we will start to focus on fractions which is a nice tie in to time telling.  Any extra practice at home using the analog clock would be helpful  for your first grader!

Eva put all the Australian animals in ABC order and read them aloud!
