First Week From the Land Down Under

The days that we were in school this week we have been to The  Land Down Under and the Rainforest in the third grade.
We made up some work during our Integrated Language from our Tic Tac Toe boards that we didn't get to last week.  We also had a mini lesson from Mrs. W on controlled "r" words.  Words that have ir, ur, er, ar, and or in them are controlled r words.  Ms. L had a mini lesson on "ch" and "sh" endings.

We compared two stories,The Other Side and The story of Ruby Bridges.  We came up with a great Venn Diagram with similarities and differences in the two books.

Rabbit footprints
In Science we examined footprints in the snow.  After Mrs. W read the book we looked at animal prints like from the racoon, squirrel, fox, bobcat and rabbit.  Last week two of the first graders had already tried to identify some footprints in the snow.  It was a perfect segway to our lesson.   Footprint pictures from animals were hung around the room and the commons and the kids with their lab sheet in hand tried to individually match the footprints to the animal.

Ms. Lorfing showed the Australia map inside the United States map to compare size.  We looked at the aborigine flag this week with it's three colors.

The third grade Rainforest tours were wonderful!   Thank you to the third graders for the private tours.  The siblings in first grade were paired with their brother/sisters.  They have so much information about the life in the Rainforest--it's a beautiful sight too!!!

Then....since we didn't have enough to do this week we had some WONDERFUL volunteers who came to help us paint our animals.  Most of them were dry enough to send home but some were not.  They will arrive Monday.  The instructions are stapled to the paper.  They are due back Monday , March 25th.  You can send them back anytime between now and then.  Thank you Ella's mom, Byer's mom, Hudson's mom and Sophie's mom.
