The Plane Is Taking Off......

Well we jumped right in after break! It has been a great week. Everyone enjoyed the spring reprieve from school; however, we were all so happy to see each other again on Tuesday morning.

Take a look at the pictures below from our language arts block this week as we continue to meet in our guided reading groups and finish up our Australian animal stories:
Lamar and Carmen are hard at work with Mrs. Waller on their Australian animal stories!

Guided reading with Ms. Lorfing!
Carter uses a mind map to illustrate the knowledge he gained from his reading.
In math this week the students have been assessed over the many concepts they have learned since the beginning of school. Once the students completed their math assessment they began a Hundred Chart review, this helps increase their number sense and mental math abilities. Ms. Lorfing also introduced the students to measurement; they learned about the difference between non-standard and standard measurement.
Stuart J. Murphy's book, Super Sand Castle Saturday!
In social studies we finished up our Australian animal presentations. The children have done such a great job sharing their reports. They are becoming quite the presenters! Carter also completed a research project over Spring Break in which he looked at similarities and differences between the United States and Australia. We learned some new information! Thank you Carter for taking the time and sharing your findings with us. Also, to extend our Australian studies, during TNT on Wednesday The Trainors and Del Pretes joined us to share their first hand knowledge of Australia with us. It was such an amazing presentation. The children were so engaged and enjoyed it thoroughly. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Thank you to our volunteers this week. We can now prepare to dive into the magical world of Fairy Tales and Folktales!
Not pictured above: Jackson's mom who came later Friday afternoon to help us wrap up a few things before leaving Friday....thank you Karen!

In Hands-On Science the children learned about the Earth's rotation on its axis and how this rotation results in day and night!

In computer lab the children visited ABCya.com to create their very own word search with this week's spelling words. Once created, they completed this self-made search. We had a blast...one last review before the test! This would be a fun activity to help your child review their spelling words at home as well.
