A "BEARY" exciting but short week!

We've got an autumnish feeling and we like it a lot!!
We were so proud of these amazing performers!
Getting our glow bracelets on for the "Ghostbusters" song.  We're so excited!
Mrs. Haskamp's last minute advice before the show began.

What a great looking bunch of 1st graders!
Whew...what a show!!

With our short week we decided to change things up a bit in language arts and forgo the tic tac toe boards.  So, we worked in 3 small groups on various skills.  Our focus was on the short "o" vowel, nouns, adjectives, and finishing up our spooky Halloween stories.  We're looking forward to sharing them with you at conferences!

Smart board lesson on identifying a noun; a person. place or thing.

Jake and Griffin classified nouns.
Elianna working on short "o" words in her phonics book.
We learned the writing process while writing our Halloween stories: Brainstorm, 1st draft, edit, illustrate, publish.
Illustrating involves using a pencil to sketch first then adding color. Publishing a book is hard work but the end result is amazing!

Using adjectives to describe our bears.

In math we reviewed various skills such as tallies, even/odd, missing addends, doubles and counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s while playing human tic tac toe.  We also did some "bear logic" with word problem solving.
Human tic-tac-toe!
Raquel reviewing her doubles.

Problem solving with bears.
Our focus in social studies this week was on the polar bear.  We compared this big, white bear to the brown grizzly bear and discovered they have many similarities but learned that polar bears do not hibernate and only prefer to eat meat.

In TNT we made scarecrows.  They will be hanging up for you to see and will add lots of beautiful fall-like color to our classroom.
