We have eagerly jumped into our new theme with
lots of excitement! This week we focused on what the difference is
between a fairy tale and a folktale as well as the elements that make up
each tale. It has been fun to see all the prior knowledge everyone has about these tales. We can tell these stories have been shared at home
which makes our job at school even more fun! We're reading different
versions of the classics and comparing and contrasting them.
Knowing Easter is right around the corner, we used a fun activity to reinforce place value skills and reading skills. Clue cards gave the information as to where to place each number. Once the number was formed it was recorded on a sheet. Another Easter activity helped us review adjectives, nouns and verbs. We had to put each labeled egg in the correct category. One other activity involved reading sentences about rabbits and then identifying if the sentence shares something that is real or make-believe about a rabbit. Then each sentence was sorted and recorded.

We practiced our money skills with the Smartboard. We had to identify who had more coins and then record the amount by writing it's value as well as using a stamp with the coin amount.
In small groups we learned the appropriate way to write a friendly letter. We will soon be writing letters as fairy tale characters and will be making mailboxes to deliver them to other characters (fellow classmates).
We have been hard at work finishing up our Australian animal stories. We have gone through the entire writing process and are now publishing our books. We can't wait to share them with you!
Abby is unscrambling fairy tale sentences.
Lila is listening to "Tate is Able" and looking for words with the "le" at the end, just like our spelling list this week.
Griffin listened to the Easter story called,"Last One In is a Rotten Egg" and is identifying the setting, characters and the main event from the story.
Maddie is using her creative writing skills to write a story about a mermaid.
Jake is making fairy tale words with Bananagrams.
Math this week involved measurement. We practiced using various non-standard measurement tools to measure objects in the classroom. Then, we discussed how a ruler is used to measure in inches (standard measurement).
We also did a fun sorting activity in math with jellybeans. We went on an Easter egg hunt and found eggs filled with jellybeans. Then, we had to sort them according to color, tally the results, and last, make a bar graph to show the data we collected.
ApRiL FoOlS dAy!!!
Mrs. Waller made a pan of brown "e"s to share with the class. Everyone thought it was such a good joke we decided to fool Mr. Myler with a plate as well. He liked it so much he shared our prank with the whole school during all school chapel. We also tried to solve a maze that had no end. It took about 10 minutes before someone realized it must be another April Fool's Day joke.
